How to Wear Crew Socks with Sneakers
Crew socks are back because they finally do something: they fill the gap between your shoe and your hem, and they're the easiest place in an outfit to add a little personality. Here's how to wear them with sneakers without overthinking it.
1. Let the sock show on purpose
A crew sock sits a few inches above the ankle. With shorts, cropped pants or a cuffed hem, that's a visible stripe of color, so treat it like part of the outfit, not something to hide. If you're going to show it, show it clearly: a scrunch at the ankle looks relaxed, and a pulled-up sock looks sharp. Both work. Half-hidden under a long hem doesn't.
2. Match the sock to the shoe, not the shirt
The easiest rule: pull one color from your sneakers into your socks. Black suede skate shoes? A black-and-grey checkered sock like Laguna ties right in. Grey retro runners? Heather greys and navy hoops from Sporting or School Yard read clean. White leather sneakers go with almost anything, which makes them the best canvas for a louder sock.
3. One loud thing at a time
